Understood, if we're using that description (that we're referring to someone who is primarily dumb/a fool), but in English there's a contradiction inherent in calling someone "cunning" if they are fundamentally/primary a fool, wouldn't you say ... as in "cunning fool" (wording it this way)?

    κουτοπόνηρος

    Ο κουτοπονηρος είναι κυρίως πονηρός, ετσι δεν είναι,; cunning fool, sly dimwit, scheming idiot ή conniving moron τονίζουν κυρίως την ανοησία του ατόμου, με την πονηριά του να είναι δευτερεύον;

Ίσως και κάτι με την αντίστροφη διατύπωση ... bungling/inept schemer, bungling/inept conniver (foolish schemer/conniver. etc.). Πέρασε από το μυαλο μου και το/τα too clever/too cunning/too cute by half, too clever/cunning for their own good, etc. ... αλλά με πρόλαβε ο cougr (as usual). :-)

A man was worried about his hearing, so he made his way to the Vatican and managed to get a private audience with the Pope. He explained his hearing problem to the Pope, who listened attentively, nodded, and then placed his hands on the man's ears. The pope couldn't help but notice the man's...

    two-sided alpha-adjusted

I appreciate your perspective, cougr. While I understand that "with a X percent confidence interval" is a common expression in statistical discourse, I think that when directly translating into Greek ,introducing "με" (even in brackets) does not align with the scientific shorthand notation...

    two-sided alpha-adjusted

G'day, cougr. Ναι, αλλά, η διατυπωση με το "με" (έστω και σε παρένθεση) μπορεί να αποβεί παραπλανητικη; It is misleading because it implies that the CI is expressed as a percentage, which is not the case (as you know).

    two-sided alpha-adjusted

    two-sided alpha-adjusted

In the second example .... "A two-sided, alpha level adjusted confidence interval (CI) .... " I'm looking at the alpha level adjusted CI part, in particular. I'm just wondering if this means that the CI is being controlled by adjusting the value of alpha?

Αυτο που ηθελα να πω ειναι ότι μπορεί, ίσως, η αμφιβολία/αυτο-αμφιβολια να είναι η κατασταση αβεβαιότητας στην οποία οδηγηθήκαμε (απο τις συνεχείς αυτο-κατηγοριες/ αυτοαμφισβητησεις); In other words doubt/self-doubt might be a state, a mental state if you like (of doubt/uncertainty/ lack of...

I think αυτο-αμφιβολια (which aligns with self-doubt, to me?) typically involves introspection, reflecting on past choices or actions - so you're not actively questioning, contesting or disputing your decisions (which...

To live vicariously through someone else

Thanks, daeman. For some reason, I had cosmasad on ignore, I just realised? I would never use my ignore button on anyone. So, I can't understand how that happened?

To live vicariously through someone else

Cosmasad's posts have disappeared (SBE replied yesterday to his "rich food" thread, but there's no record of it) ... maybe nickel should gather them all under another category, so that they at least appear somewhere?

In the early Christian Church, lapsi (Latin for "fallen;" Greek: πεπτωκότες, romanized: peptōkotes) were apostates who renounced their faith under persecution by Roman authorities. The term refers to those...

    Rich food

There probably isn't a Greek equivalent to "rich food", I'm thinking, as "rich" could also be something that's too chocolaty or too sweet or even too spicy - i.e., anything that you might enjoy eating a small amount of, but soon becomes "too much", as it's overwhelming, or "too intense"? And...

This topic reminded me of an old riddle: "There are 3909 nuns and 3 had twins ... who was responsible?" As you're posing it to a friend, you're simultaneously writing down ... 3909 3HT (the HT is short for Had Twins). The answer becomes obvious once you show them the reverse side of the...
