Υπάρχει κάποιος επίσημος όρος για την απόδοση του interrogate με αυτήν την έννοια:
Interrogate (macmillan dictionary): to get information from a computer by using a special program.

Η πρότασή μου είναι: Many different software applications will access and interrogate the common data set to generate information that is appropriate for a specific use.

Θα ήθελα να αποφύγω το "αντλούν πληροφορίες", επειδή το χρησιμοποιώ παρακάτω, για το generate information.

Βασικά, είναι άντληση δεδομένων. Δεν νομίζω ότι μπορείς να το πεις διαφορετικά. Δεν καταλαβαίνω γιατί διαλέγεις το "αντλώ πληροφορία" για το "generate information". Γιατί όχι "στοιχειοθέτηση πληροφορίας";

Επειδή έχει συνήθως έννοια παραπλήσια του query, συνήθως το αποδίδω με το υποβάλλω ερώτημα ή κάτι ανάλογο. Το λεξικό της Microsoft το μεταφράζει ερωτώ (όπως και το query), το Teleterm συμφωνεί με τον δικό του μοναδικό τρόπο («ερωτηματοθετώ» ).

Δεν ξέρω να υπάρχει ουσιαστική διαφορά ανάμεσα στο to query a database και το to interrogate a database. Στο πρώτο η απόδοση του teleterm είναι «ερωτώ». Μου αρέσει πολύ και το «υποβάλλω ερώτημα στη βάση δεδομένων». Φτάνουν αυτά. Για το «generate information» δεν με ενοχλεί το «άντληση πληροφοριών»· υπάρχει και το «συγκέντρωση πληροφοριών». Η «στοιχειοθέτηση πληροφορίας / πληροφοριών» δεν με ικανοποιεί ως σύμφραση (βλ. στοιχειοθετώ).

Το ODE είναι το αγαπημένο μου λεξικό και το χρησιμοποιώ συνέχεια. Είδα τον ορισμό που δίνει, αλλά αυτή τη φορά τον θεώρησα λανθασμένο. Ακριβέστερος είναι ο παρακάτω:
request computer information: to transmit a request to a program or device for information, e.g. to a printer for the status of a print job or to a database for specific data (Encarta)

Αν μείνουμε στο «obtain data», κοιτάζουμε το επιδιωκόμενο αποτέλεσμα και όχι την ενέργεια τού interrogate. Είναι πολύ πιθανό να απευθύνεις / υποβάλεις ερώτημα στη βάση και να πάρεις zilch. Κοντολογίς, δεν διαφέρει από το παραδοσιακό interrogate.
