Ετοιμαζόμουν να πω ότι οι τινέιτζερ δεν έχουν φτάσει ακόμα στα ελληνικά λεξικά και θα έκανα λάθος. Διότι το ΛΚΝ έχει «τινέιτζερ ο [tinéidzer] θηλ. τινέιτζερ [tinéidzer] O (άκλ.) : νεαρό άτομο μεταξύ δεκατριών και δεκαεννέα ετών». Όπως ξέρουμε, η αγγλική λέξη βασίστηκε αυστηρά στην κατάληξη των αριθμών από thirteen έως nineteen, οπότε μαθηματικά δεν ταυτίζεται με την εφηβεία που αλλάζει από άτομο σε άτομο και από χώρα σε χώρα. Νοηματικά, ωστόσο, θα έλεγα ότι ταυτίζεται, π.χ σε φράσεις όπως teenage fashion.
Έχουμε παρόμοιο πρόβλημα και με τα μαθηματικά της παρεμφερούς λέξης της περασμένης δεκαετίας, τα tweens, από teens και between, δηλαδή την ηλικία ανάμεσα (between) στην παιδική και την εφηβική, αλλά μπορούμε να την πούμε προεφηβική και να την τοποθετήσουμε κάπου ανάμεσα σε 8 και 12, χωρίς να δίνουμε ωστόσο μεγάλη σημασία, αφού ο καθένας τη βάζει όπου θέλει.
