Το βίο και τα πάθη

Should I understand this statement exactly as it is written? Or does it contain any metaphorical meaning, just as "βίος και πολιτεία"?

I don't think so. Just a straightforward "Life and Passion of Christ."

As daeman suggests there's no metaphorical connotations to it.

However, occasionally you may come across it in a secular context in which case you can read it as someone's trials and tribulations or hardships in life.

Eg. "Μας διηγήθηκε τον βίο και τα πάθη του" = he told us about his life and its tribulations/ hardships etc.

I only mention it because in the past I came across this secular usage of the phrase in a Greek tv show and the English subtitles read "his life and passion" - not very good.
