We are proud of our country, and there are many things of which we have a right to be proud. We may be proud that England is the ancient country of Parliaments. With scarcely any intervening period, Parliaments have met constantly for 600 years, and there was something of a Parliament before the Conquest. England is the mother of Parliaments.

Βλέπουμε ότι έτσι ξεκίνησε η έκφραση για τη «μητέρα των κοινοβουλίων» ή, με μια μικρή προσθήκη, τη «μητέρα όλων των κοινοβουλίων».
Σήμερα, βέβαια, δεν μας ενδιαφέρει τι έλεγε ο κ. Μπράιτ. Η έκφραση the mother of parliaments ή the mother of all parliaments αφορά το κοινοβούλιο του Ουεστμίνστερ. Έτσι το χρησιμοποιούν οι αγγλόφωνοι, έτσι μπορούμε να το χρησιμοποιήσουμε κι εμείς.
Εκτός από την εγγραφή της Wikipedia, βρίσκω και στο λεξικό Collins εγγραφή που αδιαφορεί για την αρχική σημασία:
