parlay = παρολί | αβγατίζω

Το αγγλικό ουσιαστικό είναι παραφθορά της ιταλικής λέξης paroli, που χρησιμοποιούμε κι εμείς σε στοιχήματα για να περιγράψουμε την περίπτωση όπου αφήνουμε μέσα (στο παιχνίδι) τα κέρδη μας από ένα στοίχημα, διπλασιάζοντας (ή και πολλαπλασιάζοντας) έτσι το ποσό του αμέσως προηγούμενου στοιχήματος.

Η λέξη χρησιμοποιείται και σαν ρήμα, και νομίζω ότι το αβγατίζω είναι μια καλή αντιστοιχία της μεταφορικής χρήσης (αλλά όχι η μοναδική). Δείτε τα παραδείγματα του OED:

2. trans. To increase (capital) by means of gambling; more generally, to exploit (a circumstance) for gain, to transform (an asset, advantage, etc.) into something considerably greater or more valuable. Also absol. colloq.

Ας μην μπερδεύουμε το ρήμα αυτό με το parley, από το γαλλικό parler, που χρησιμοποιείται με τη σημασία «διαπραγμάτευση, διαπραγματεύομαι».
