Δε βρήκα να έχει ξανασυζητηθεί.
Όχι, δεν αναφέρομαι στις χαζοαμερικάνικες ταινίες, αλλά στην έννοια του "american pie".

Εδώ βλέπω πως:

Before it was a bad teen sex comedy, the phrase "American Pie" meant only one thing: a metaphor for the lost postwar dream, a requiem for the teenage world of innocence, abundance, and supposed unity that accompanied the rock and roll movement of the Fifties.

Με βάση το pie in the sky (A prospect, often illusory, of future happiness, esp. as a reward in heaven for virtue or suffering on earth; an extravagant promise that is unlikely to be fulfulled (sic) — OED) και αφού το «αμερικάνικο όνειρο» είναι καπαρωμένο από το American dream, να το πούμε αμερικάνικη χίμαιρα;

Εγώ είχα σκεφτεί κάτι σαν "χαμένο αμερικάνικο όνειρο" ή "χαμένη αμερικάνικη αθωότητα".
Μου αρέσει η αμερικάνικη χίμαιρα επειδή δείχνει ακριβώς το ανέφικτο, την ουτοπία.

Και μουσικά, μετά τη χίμαιρα και την απολίθωση, ήρθε το πανκ, το κατάπιαμε κι αυτό και πήγαμε γι' άλλα,

I don't know whether you consider that wrong or right but it is a morality song in a sense." The catalog did confirm some of the better known references in the song's lyrics, including mentions of Elvis Presley (referred to in the lyrics as "the king,"), Bob Dylan (the jester), and the death of Meredith Hunter at the Altamont Free Concert (the introduction of the third verse and most of the fifth verse).
