Κυριολεκτικά σημαίνει «μέχρι ναυτίας», αφού η λατινική λέξη
nausea (εδώ στην αιτιατική) σήμαινε «ναυτία», ό,τι και η αγγλική
nausea, και προερχόταν από την ελληνική
ναυτία ή
ναυσία, από τη λ.
ναυς «πλοίο».
Το απίστευτο είναι ότι στο διαδίκτυο περισσότερα από τα
ad nauseam είναι τα λανθασμένα
ad *nauseum, από την κατάληξη -
eum λέξεων όπως
museum, Colosseum — παρότι η λέξη
nausea υπάρχει και στα αγγλικά.
