Liu and Brown [11] applied extended discrete choice models to prediction of spatial probability of criminal activity, which produces much higher accuracies than traditional hot-spotting techniques. The fundamental technique utilized by Liu and Brown is to utilize more features in predictions.

The first is called hot-spotting. Hot-spotting was originally used in criminal justice in New York City when William Bratton, the city’s former police commissioner, revolutionized urban policing by using data to map when and where crimes took place, and then sending extra officers to the areas where crimes were committed most often. By putting extra resources to areas with the highest crime rates, Bratton found it was possible to lower crime across New York.

This is hot-spotting: a problem solving technique that targets the most expensive problems or in-need people by allocating resources to specific problem areas as revealed by data.

Τι λέτε για «επικέντρωση στα θερμά σημεία»;

Εδώ που τα λέμε, η «επικέντρωση στα θερμά σημεία» δεν είναι το ίδιο ακριβώς με την «εστίαση» --ιδίως αν σκεφτούμε ότι αρχικά η εστία ήταν το θερμό σημείο που βρισκόταν στο επίκεντρο ... κλπ. κλπ.;

Εστίαση στα θερμά σημεία, για το λογοπαίγνιο. Αλλά πιστεύω ότι χρειάζεται να διατηρηθούν (για γνωστές ορολογικές σκοπιμότητες) τα «θερμά σημεία».

Πολύ ωραία η ε...ση :) στα θερμά σημεία. Νομίζω όμως ότι η οποιαδήποτε απόδοση απαιτεί να διευκρινιστούν πλήρως τα discrete choice models, γιατί οι hot-spotting techniques δεν αναφέρονται αυτοτελώς αλλά σε διάκριση από τα ως άνω κατηραμένα. Η διαφορά πρέπει να φαίνεται. Και μην περιμένετε από μένα να πω ποια είναι. Μακάρι να 'ξερα.
