Euthanasia or Put an Animal to Sleep

Good morning friends,

I am wondering what the colloquial expression might be in Greek for euthanasia or to "Put an animal to sleep" as in when one has a veterinarian "put an animal to sleep" because it is in extreme pain and it is dying.

Thank you.

In Greek it's "ευθανασία", and I don't believe we have a more colloquial word than this. "Κοιμίζω" (put to sleep) is not used in Greek referring to euthanasia of animals, as far as I know.

In English there is a colloqual expression for everything and people tend to talk with euphemisms and simplifications. In Greek not so much. In that respect, we are a bit closer to the USA than the UK (for example, Americans love using medicl terminology, in the UK, the doctor asked me for a weewee sample and I had no idea what he was asking, but then I understood he meant he wanted a urine sample. It was a culture shock.
