much adorned

... το πολύπλουμο νομίζω είναι σημασιολογικά κοντά στο "φανταχτερό" ;

Always expressing my humble opinion, of course.

I think he's writing allegorically and imaginatively here about some "fabulous/fancy," exotic snake from the east, which he imagines not only wrapping around his chest, but also licking his ears.
He's been transported away by the music, the alcohol, the beautiful female dancer and forgotten (momentarily) about class struggles, communism, etc...
The blind musicians (if they are real and not imagined) might actually be snake charmers, and there could indeed be a bejewelled snake there.

I should read the book ... but altan can decide if I'm barking up the wrong tree.

I should add:

fanciful/fancy
adjective
highly ornamental or imaginative in design.

Similar: ornate, exotic, imaginative, extravagant, fantastic, grotesque, baroque

I'll add "lavishly colourful" to the mix. Or for that matter, "lavishly adorned/ornate" as well.

... αφού είναι προϊόν της φαντασίας του συγγραφέα, και γράφει για "χνουδωτά κατασκότεινα ματιά (του παμπάλαιο φιδιού," referring to its "furry/fluffy" eyes ), ας αφήσουμε ανοιχτό το ενδεχόμενο ότι αναφέρεται σ' ένα "πολύ κεντημένο" φίδι - a "highly embroidered" cloth snake .
A cloth snake (a "venomous" and mythical one at that) that is highly decorated with sewn on (or sewed on, if you prefer) patterns?

embroidered
/ɪmˈbrɔɪdəd/
