Is this an idiom? If so, I have seen it only twice and I can’t find it in any dictionary I have. This is the context:-
Η σταύρωση ως γνωστόν ήταν τρόπος θανατικής καταδίκης και αντιπροσωπεύει το μαρτύριο του Χριστού που ήταν πολύ οδυνηρό, όμως επειδή ο Χριστός είχε όχι απλό δόντι αλλά χαυλιόδοντα, κατάφερε μετά το ξεσταύρωμά του να αναστηθεί και να δώσει ελπίδες στον κάθε ταλαίπωρο πως, ό,τι μαρτύριο και να περνάει, θα καταφέρει να βρει λύτρωση.
Its meaning can be deduced from the context as meaning something like ‘very tough and resilient’. I have come across these words in another context but don’t remember where.
The above article deals with the strong blasphemy recorded in the media which was uttered live by the actor Petros Kousoulos as his reaction to the terrible circumstances surrounding the treatment of the little 3 year old Angelos in Crete where this little boy died of his appalling injuries in the PAGNI in Heraklion. I can appreciate the reaction of the actor to something so terribly wicked and unfortunately increasingly common but I do not think Kousoulos’s terrible oath was necessary and I will not record it.
