This paragraph is from an article in a Sunday British newspaper about a woman’s binge drinking and the struggle to give the habit up:-
“This is what happened. The whoosh, the roller coaster, the incalculable drop if I stopped. The next day terrible, despairing gloom. The intense rush and subsequent emotional crash…”
I memorised it and might have got some words wrong but I am particularly interested in the words ‘whoosh’ and ‘crash’ and what the best Greek idioms might be. Here is my attempt to translate the words:-
Η κραιπάλη. Αυτό συνέβη. Το χάι μου και σαν το τρενάκι του λούνα παρκ, η ανυπολόγιστη πτώση αν σταματούσα. Την επόμενη μέρα τρομερή, απελπισμένη μελαγχολία. Η έντονη έξαρση και η επακόλουθη συναισθηματική κατάρρευση…
I don’t like my attempt firstly because I don’t know if tHere are any parallel Greek interjections like το φιου/ βουρ or you just have to write σφύριγμα. For crash would μπαμ/ κραχ be suitable interjections? Or do you use just πτώση? And second the whole translation smacks of AI and google translate.
I need lexilogia to translate the above properly and to correct my ρωσική σαλάτα!
