Πώς θα μεταφράζατε εδώ το "rolling" και το "rawhide";

Rawhide ήταν η ομότιτλη τηλεοπτική σειρά και το θέμα το τραγουδούσε ο Φράνκι Λέιν. Έχει αναπαραχθεί πολλές φορές, αλλά ξανάγινε γνωστό χάρη στους Blues Brothers.
Rawhide είναι κατά κυριολεξία το ακατέργαστο τομάρι, αλλά εδώ δεν ξέρω αν μπορεί να μεταφραστεί εφόσον αναφέρεται στον τίτλο της σειράς. Το rolling πιστεύω ότι αναφέρεται στον ασταμάτητο καλπασμό (του κοπαδιού και των καουμπόηδων).
Αλλά να περιμένουμε κι άλλους. ;)

Πάντως, το Rawhide να μην το πούμε «Τομάρια»!

Η σημασία τού rolling φαίνεται και από τη φράση «Keep them dogies rolling", αλλά θα δυσκολευόμουν πολύ να το αποδώσω με κάποιο αντίστοιχο τροχαϊκό δισύλλαβο:

Το ενδιαφέρον στους στίχους του τραγουδιού είναι το dogie, το ορφανεμένο μοσχαράκι. Δεν φτάνει που ασχολούνται όλοι με την προέλευση της λέξης (χωρίς να δίνουν πειστικά ευρήματα), στη Wikipedia βλέπω κι αυτή την ερμηνεία:

In the American Old West, a motherless or small, runty calf was sometimes referred to as a dogie, (pronounced with a long "o") though in the classic traditional folk song, Dogie's Lament, also known as Git along little dogie, the "dogies" in question meant cattle strong enough to be herded from Texas to Wyoming, including weaners, yearling steers and other young, non-orphaned animals.

Corwyn Edwards provides even more information: "Although most people know that 'dogies refers to cattle, many don't know the specific definition. A dogie is a motherless calf. Perhaps they are called dogies because of the puppy-like behavior of an orphaned calf in following a person about. Incidentally, a maverick is any unbranded, motherless calf--but that's another story."

Tom Kovach has written in with more information about the term "dogies" (6-10-13): "This is actually an American English misuse of the Russian word "dogi" meaning 'cattle,' the singular being 'doga,' cow. Putting the 's' sound on a word that is already plural is something that drives professors of linguistics crazy, but most other people don't even notice.

"In theory, then, the correct English usage would've been 'dogas,' but that just doesn't float anyone's boat. Besides, a surprising number of early cowboys were of Slavic descent -- Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, etc. -- and the word is understood in all of those languages although with slight differences in pronunciation. So, when the English-speaking cowboys overheard them say 'dogi,' the word likely caught on and then morphed into 'dogies.'
