Εψαξα και βρήκα ένα απόσπασμα της Bryson και διαπίστωσα ότι σε αυτήν τη φράση δίνει την εξής σημασία θεωρία της ενεργού συμμετοχής

Το παραπάνω απόσπασμα είχα βρει κι εγώ όταν ψήφισα αλλού την απόδοση «στρατευμένη θεωρία».
[ΛΚΝ] Στρατευμένος ποιητής / καλλιτέχνης / στρατευμένη τέχνη / λογοτεχνία, που υπηρετεί εθνικούς, ιδεολογικούς ή άλλους σκοπούς. Στη συγκεκριμένη περίπτωση, θεωρία που αποσκοπεί όχι απλώς να εξηγήσει, αλλά να αλλάξει την κοινωνία.
Στα γαλλικά (Robert) είναι σαφέστερο:
engagé: (1945) Mis par son engagement au service d'une cause (opposé à non-engagé). Un écrivain, un chanteur engagé. « Dans la littérature engagée, l'engagement ne doit en aucun cas faire oublier la littérature » (Sartre).
